KAL and Kirby

I'm so excited about the latest KAL! Yes, I know I keep saying that, but hey, it keeps being true! :) This is now one of my favorite patterns, right up there with lace cloths. I'm going to be making many more. For this one, I used S&C Tea Rose and Ivory. They look so pretty together!Kirby has a new love - bubbles! Dad brought some home, and he just loves them. I took a really cute video, but I can't get to work. Check back in a few days, and maybe I'll get it. Oh well, here are some pictures anyway. They're blurry, but you get the idea.

Valentine's Day, Stitch Markers, and a new lace cloth!

Every year for as long as I can remember our family (just the 5 of us) has had a Valentine's Day party. It's never exactly the same, but it's always fun! We have dinner on our china, in the past we've made our own heart shaped pizzas, and decorated cupcakes, or else had something fancy. We play some games, and do other things too. We never know what we're going to do until we're doing it! This year we had a dart competition. I was actually ahead for most of it, (trust me, that's a big shocker!!) but at the end I fell apart and came in third. Oh well, it was still fun. Then we had a raffle. (something we do every year) We each draw pictures, and then we raffle them. It's actually really fun! We get kind of crazy. This year, instead of Mom choosing the categories, we each got to think of one. That got interesting. Here we are with our "artwork" :)For dinner, we had Twice-Baked potatoes, Vegetable pancakes, cranberry sauce, and Chicken Marsala. It was really good! (by the way, that's sparkling grape juice in the back!)We have a "Heart Mobile" that we add to every year. We each make a few hearts with Sculpy to put on it. It's very full by now. :) It was a great party.

Last weekend I made some new stitch markers. I made the little Easter eggs with Sculpy! The beads took an eternity to make, but I just love how they turned out.
I also finished this lace cloth. I'd forgotten how long lace patterns take, but in my opinion, it was definately worth it!

Socks and a Dishcloth Dress

Happy Valentine's Day! We aren't doing anything until tomorrow night, but I'll write more about that later. I finally finished the pair of socks I was working on earlier! They are so soft. I made them with Angel Hair yarn from JoAnns. Here's a picture.I went back and did the dishcloth dress KAL from September. I think it's so cute! It didn't take long at all. I used Lavendar Ice, which is one of my new favorites.
I had plenty of yarn left for a new DW Cloth!

February KAL....one of my favorites!

I absolutely love this one! I think it may be my favorite since I joined the KAL group.

While I was waiting for the final rows, I made the Heartstrings dishcloth. I didn't mean to actually finish it, I just couldn't put it down! I just love the pattern.

Tom Sawyer!

I've just finished a very busy two weeks! You may remember that I was helping with CYT's (Christian Youth Theater) Tom Sawyer, and Thursday, Friday, and Saturday were the performances. Ok, I'll start at the beginning. Rehearsals went really well. For the first week, mostly my job consisted of keeping the kids quiet. (Which never did quite work. How can they still manage to talk when they're supposed to be sitting spread out on separate pews?) Then last Monday, I learned I was going to be in charge of one side backstage. (I was the "Assistant Stage Director" according to the program.) I'd never done anything like that before! I admit I was a little nervous, but I really enjoyed it. It was my job to get the kids ready, then onstage. I had a stool and a podium, which had my script on it, with all my notes. I really felt official. :) The part I enjoyed the most was working with Crystal, the Stage Director. She's been in CYT forever, and I learned a lot from her. We had a lot of fun too! Here we are with Mrs. Nancy, who did lights. We have our headsets (I guess that's what you'd call it) on. They made things SO much easier! Crystal and I could tell each other who we needed, or anything else, without having to run back and forth, and we could tell Mrs. Nancy when the kids were ready onstage. The performances went so well! They all did such a great job, and I'm so proud of each and every one of them. Some of them were sick, my brothers included. (103 degree fevers!) Zach stayed home for the Thursday performance, and another boy did his lines. Jamey played Huck Finn, so he couldn't stay home. The first two nights, only a few kids were sick. Then came Saturday. When we got there Saturday morning, almost everyone was sick. Before they started, Crystal and I handed out cough drops, and we went through two bags. During intermission, they were dropping like flies. The hall sounded like a hospital! There was no way they could have done it on their own. It was only by a miracle from God that they got through the rest! To see them onstage, you never would have known that any of them felt so miserable, aside from a cough or two. Things went pretty smoothly backstage all three nights, no huge disasters, thank goodness! There were a few behavior issues, some of the little boys just couldn't stay sitting down and quiet. One stuck his head out of the curtain during intermission! Oh well, there's only so much you can do. I really enjoyed the whole thing, and I'm sad it's over. At least there's still the cast party to look foward to! Here are some more pictures.
