It's that time of year again!

Be sure to check out the dishcloth calendar website! The 2011 calendar is now available, and it looks wonderful! I have a pattern in it again this year. It's hard to believe that it's almost 2011, but it will be here before you know it!

A random assortment of thoughts, news, and pictures

Hi everyone! I hope you're all having a lovely July. I am, although I'm tired of the heat. I doubt I'll melt, but at times I feel like I might. I'm looking forward to fall weather, but I don't want summer to end! Right now I have the house pretty much to myself. Jamey went somewhere with a friend, and Zach is at CYT summer camp. We're in the middle of the last two weeks of rehearsals for the next CYT play, (We're doing Daniel again!) but there is no rehearsal tonight. I'm enjoying the rest! I'm going to curl up with either a half finished sock or the cross-stitch project that I've been working on for years and have yet to finish. Maybe both. I have the worst time deciding what to work on. Do I cross-stitch? Draw? Read? Knit? If I knit, then what should I knit? What about all of the little things that I have to do at some point? Have I forgotten anything I really needed to do? *sigh* Life is full of decisions, and sadly, I am not the worlds best at making them.

Anyway, about the calendar. I sat down to say something about it, and here I've typed a whole paragraph about nothing in particular and have yet to mention it! Be sure to visit the blog for the 2010 knitting calendar! This year it's going to have two of my patterns, (there is a picture of one of them posted on the blog) and I can hardly wait to try some of the others!

Last, but not least, over the last few weeks I've gone dishcloth crazy. Here are some pictures of
the result. :)

4th of July cloth! (the June KAL, but I made it on the way to my aunt and uncle's on the 4th)

2009 Knitting Calendar!

I just wanted to remind you all to check out the 2009 knitting calendar blog! From what I've seen of it so far, it's going to be wonderful. There are so many talented people involved. I'm especially excited because this year the calendar will include two of my own patterns! This first one is called Bluebonnets, the second is called Stained Glass.

Of Birds and Brandon (and dishcloths!)

Our baby wrens are gone. They flew away yesterday, and we were able to watch! It was so cute. Here are two pictures, the first is from the day before they left, and the second is of one of them out on their own.Brandon has been dying for me to teach him how to knit, so we went to Wal-Mart and got him some needles and yarn. He was so excited to learn! I taught him on Tuesday, and he finished his very first dishcloth today. He did a great job! He's already started a second one. This time I'm showing him how to make a Granny's Favorite.

Every night Brandon has to write in his journal about something he's done that day. The night I taught him he wrote about knitting, and I told him if he'd type it on the computer that I'd post it. So, here it is.

Knitting lesson with Lindy

I am learning knitting with Lindy. Lindy is teaching me. Lindy is good at hand making: knitting, hand sewing, sewing machine and cross stitch. I like knitting. I want to make clothes. I’ll give them to my family. I bought yarn and needles in Wal-mart. I picked the color. I’m making a dish cloth. I worked hard at my schoolwork so I could have my lesson with Lindy afterwards. I knitted 21 rows. I want to do this in Korea. I’ll buy more yarn and needles and then make a lot of things.

It did not me this long to finish the June Mid-Month KAL, only to post a picture of it. :) It's such a pretty pattern, and the picture doesn't do it justice!

Last but not least, I've fallen in love with another pattern... the ballband! It was so much fun to make, and I love any pattern that uses more than one color! I just can't believe it took me so long to get around to making one.

Knitting in random places

I just finished Driver's Ed. It made for a really long week! Now all I have to do is actually drive, which should be interesting. I managed to get my kites (for the Kite Along) involved. The teacher said we could bring a book or something, so I brought my knitting instead. It kept me sane! I got 5 2/3 kites done, so I felt like I accomplished something. (I mean besides learning to drive.) Here's a picture of all my kites so far.

Kirby's haircut

Kirby's hair had gotten way out of hand. Mom cuts his hair every 6 months or so, and it goes from long and fluffy to really short. It's a big job, he had a lot of hair! He's pretty patient, but he fights it a little when she cuts his face and feet. She spreads it out over several days, and in between, he looks really funny! I thought I'd share some pictures.....
The first day she cut his head and legs. (Doesn't he look like a sheep?)
Then she cut his body
Here he is with only one ear done.
Ta daaaaaa!!!!
In case you've been wondering, I'm not taking a break from knitting. I just haven't been knitting dishcloths as much. I've mostly been working on belts for a craft sale this November. I also joined the Kite Along. I've been having a lot of fun with that! I've made 9 already. I'm using my cotton scraps, in all different colors. The color combination isn't that pretty yet, but once I do some more it will be! (I hope!)

Contest winners!

I must admit, I couldn't believe how many people entered my little contest last week! Thanks so much for all the sweet things you said. You made my blog-a-versay fun! To all the people who said to give Kirby a hug, he says thanks too. :) I was really surprised at how close some of the guesses came, especially since there was no picture. I was even more surprised that two people actually got the exact number! The winners are........ Kathleen (via email) and picn'knit! Congratulations! (picn'knit, if you could leave a comment with your email address or else email me at MadeByLindy AT nc DOT rr DOT com in order to claim your prize, that would be great!) The correct number is 63. Here's a picture of all of them. I hope you all had a great Easter! I did. Check back in a few days, and I should have some pictures.

Blog-a-versary contest!

Well, this blog began a year ago today, and in honor of this very important fact, I'm going to do... ummmm.... Just give me a minute, I'll think of something. While I'm thinking, I just have to say how much I appreciate all of you wonderful people who take the time to read my blog! It would be pretty much pointless if no one bothered to read it. Special thanks to Hakucho, TEA, and Joelle, who never fail to comment. Not to leave the rest of you out! Every time someone leaves a comment, it makes my day. I still can't believe it's been a year! Actually, I almost missed this important event. *gasp* That would have been very sad, after all, these things only come once a year. Oh well, I didn't, so it's all good. Ok, I thought of something. I'll have a little contest. In my room, I have a rather large pile of dishcloths. Leave a comment, and see if you can guess how many I have sitting up there. This includes KALs, patterns I've designed, everything. For added challenge, I'm not going to post a picture. :) Whoever comes the closest will win 2 free patterns from my pattern blog. (Your choice) If there's a tie, I won't draw names, there will just be more than one winner. You have until next Saturday, March 22, to enter. I'll announce the winner on the 23rd, along with the correct number. If you don't have a blog, be sure to leave your email address or something so I can get in touch with the winner! Again, thanks for making my blogging experience so wonderful. Have fun!

P.S. Oops! I forgot that the 23rd is Easter! It still seems too early. Because of that, the contest will still close on Saturday, but I won't announce the winner until a few days later.

Yarn!!!!!

I just recieved my very first P&C order! I actually got it within 24 hours of having ordered it. I just love it! All the colors are so beautiful. I can't wait to use them. Kirby was excited too, not because of the yarn, but because of the box. Nearly every time we get something in a box, Kirby get's to play with it. (the box, that is) He didn't get this one, but he sure did want it. Immediately, he ran over and sat beside it, hunched over with his head leaning on it! Then he looked at us with his "cute" eyes. It was so funny! Here's a picture. You have to understand he's leaning very hard. You most likely would have laughed if you had seen how excited I got over each new color I pulled out of the box! I think the Mar-di-gras and Baby Ombre are my very favorites. Here it is, all spread out. All my NEW yarn got me curious about how much yarn I had total. So, I got it all out and counted skeins. (Only cotton, mind you, although I don't have too much of anything else.) I had 198 skeins! (Roughly, I already forgot the exact number.) I go through it pretty fast though. :)

Random knitting and etc....

I know, it's been awhile, but I haven't been doing much worth writing about lately. I've been enjoying making Tribbles, I've made three so far. The colors don't show up too well, but you get the idea.
I also went back and did the August mid-month KAL. I was out of town for that one, but I just love the pattern, so I had to go back and make my own. :)Outside of knitting, I'm helping with another CYT play that's coming up. This one is Tom Sawyer. My brothers are both in it. I'm really excited about it! I enjoy helping. There are more details about it here. You'll be hearing much more about it soon, trust me. Tomorrow is supposed to be their costume rehearsal, but it may snow. It hasn't snowed here in 3 or so years, (at least, not more than a millionth of an inch) and the one time it does is the day we have something really important! I love snow. I wish it would, but I hate for the rehearsal to be postponed. If it does snow, I'll post some pictures in the next few days.

Fair Entries

Here are the results of my entries in the state fair! Awhile back I had posted pictures of the things I entered. My mom had sent in the form while I was gone, and she had forgotten to tell me she had entered 2 more things! (The whole thing was kind of last minute, so we hadn't had a lot of time to decide.) So, besides the wreath cloth and purse set, I also entered a baby blanket I had made, and the Heart Quilt dishcloth. Naturally, once we got to the fair, the first thing we did was go to the Hobbies and Crafts building to see if my brothers and I had won a ribbon. I was really excited, a little nervous, but having fun! My youngest brother won a 5th place ribbon for his origami, and a 2nd place ribbon for his mobile, and my other brother (2 years younger than I am) won a 1st place ribbon for his leather craft! The wreath didn't win, (neither did the blanket, which was in another building) the purse set won 5th place, and the heart quilt won 2nd! I was really excited! I can't wait until next year!

State Fair entries.

This month is our State Fair, and I'm entering 2 things this year. I've never entered anything before, and unfortunately, I'm in the professional category. I'm entering a purse set, my favorite one I've made. It's for a girl and her doll, and they are exactly the same, except the doll purse is smaller and has a smaller daisies for the border and thinner handles. I'm also entering a dishcloth I designed, and just finished today. It's called "Christmas Wreath". Like I said, I'm in the professional category, so I'm not expecting to win any ribbons! I think it will be fun having them where people can see them. I'll let you know the results, but it won't be for awhile! We have to take them on Monday.

I'm now selling stitch markers! I've really been enjoying making them. Each set is $3.50, which includes shipping. I made a new blog to sell them on. It's http://stitchmarkersbylindy.blogspot.com/. I'd love to hear what you think!

My First Order!

I got my first order off my website! I'm so excited! It's even more exciting, because the lady wanted two patterns I designed! She wanted a black and white fish, and a green lion. Not the colors I would've picked, (especially the fish, it doesn't show up very well) but at least it's something I'll always remember! :) I'm going to mail it on Monday. I hope it's the first of many!

Craft Sale

Yesterday I had a table at a craft sale at a local church. I've been preparing for this for 2 months! I had a lot of fun, I was there from 6 to 3. It was outdoors, and it was supposed to rain! We were all praying it wouldn't rain, and it didn't! It DID sprinkle, but only for a few minutes. It went pretty well, I made about $225 profit, but I didn't sell any of my purses that I worked so hard on. It was a nice setup, Each table was a parking space long. There was a bake sale, plant sale, silent auction, and also a live auction after the sale. (I didn't stay for the live auction) I had 2 very nice ladies on either side of me, one sold beaded jewelry, and the other painted glass panels. I gave out 42 business cards. I had ordered some online, but they hadn't come yet, so I spent hours Friday night making and printing some, then cutting them out. They looked alright, but not wonderful. I was thinking during the sale, wouldn't it be funny if they were in the mail waiting once I got home? Well, I got home and checked the mail, and sure enough, they were. It wasn't as funny as I thought. They do look good though. They put the group cloth in a basket with a few other things in the silent auction, and it brought $15! It makes me feel like it was worthwhile.

My Website!!!!!!!!!!

I have finally finished my website! I have had a knitting business for years, and have been working on this site for almost a year! (actually, most of that time was spent in procrastination.) :o) Really though, I'm so excited! Click on the picture (my logo) if you want to see it!

40 cent yarn!!!

Someone on the KAL group sent in (about 2 weeks ago) a message saying that Amazon was selling Sugar'n Cream yarn for 40 cents a skein! I bought a LOT. (81 skeins) I couldn't afford not to! :) I was really dissapointed though. I had initially put 2 or so of each color in my cart, and then I went through adding more. Somehow, when I clicked "update cart" It didn't work, so I didn't buy as much as I wanted to. So, I only had 1 of some colors when I wanted 5. Oh well, I'm just lucky I got any. Here's a picture of me and my yarn. The picture of me is terrible, but that's not really the point.
